Our Community Comes Together
It is remarkable when a community comes together to help others.
One of the businesses within the Brad Hall Group, which includes the Hall Foundation, recently purchased a hotel in Idaho Falls. Once the premier place to stay in the city, it had sat vacant since closing in April. Before demolishing the building and starting something new, the owners made an extraordinary decision: donate the hotel's contents to nonprofits and community organizations throughout the region.
The generosity behind that decision can't be overstated. Beds, couches, dressers, mini-fridges, microwaves, lamps, desks, chairs, dining tables, bedding, coffee makers, restaurant stemware, and countless other items with years of useful life left were made available to families across eastern Idaho rather than discarded. We were deeply grateful to be invited to participate — and after reaching out to our youth and families, it quickly became clear there was a need for nearly everything.
Accepting the offer was one thing. Moving it was another. Brian Cooper and Elite Services stepped forward by donating the use and transportation of a 40-foot shipping container, delivering it to the hotel and then hauling it all the way to American Falls. Without his generosity, we simply couldn't have taken advantage of the opportunity the Hall Foundation created.
Volunteers Roger and Wendy Anderson, Pam Pascali, Baden Judd, Laura Mckenzie, Jenny Hugues, and Friends - Eastern Idaho team members Gina Judd, Audrey Huskey, and Vannesa Truchot then spent seven hours moving furniture and household goods out of hotel rooms, down hallways and stairwells, and into the container. It was physically demanding work, but everyone showed up ready to help and determined to see it through.
When the container arrived in American Falls, the group was met by the Justice League — an outstanding group of Highland High School students who provide "superhero" acts of service in the community. Shaefer Call, Mason Anderson, Carsten Horrocks, and Hugh Andrews helped unload the container and deliver items directly to families in our program.
By the end of a very long day, families who only days earlier had told us about unmet needs now had beds to sleep in, tables to gather around, couches to sit on, and household items that will serve them for years to come.
What stands out most is how many people it took: the Hall Foundation chose to share, Brian Cooper and Elite Services solved an enormous logistical challenge, volunteers gave a full day of hard labor, and students gave their time to serve others. Because each person contributed what they could, hundreds of items found new homes with families who genuinely needed them.
To all the individuals and groups who made this day possible, we thank you. Your generosity and hard work made a meaningful difference for the youth and families we serve, and we are profoundly grateful.
