December 10, 2024 Sharing About Friends of the Children on KISU-FM If you were listening to KISU-FM on Thanksgiving morning, you may have heard the voice of Gina, our Executive Director! She spoke with McKenzie Young about Friends of the Children – Eastern Idaho and our first year of building relationships and community in American Falls and beyond. Listen in to hear her introduce herself and our organization, share what grabbed her about the long-term outcomes from Friends of the Children’s 30 years of experience across the country, and explain how the long-term, one-on-one relationship with a professional mentor builds key protective factors for children facing big challenges. In the interview, Gina also emphasizes that the community is a key part of our model’s success. She shares, ‘Our mentoring is very focused on building core assets, characteristics that have been shown to help kids be successful. Like finding their spark. When kids identify their strengths and their interests, that is a protective factor for them. We love when would-be community partners come to us and say, can I donate some of my time or expertise to help your youth learn about soccer, or butterfly catching, snowshoeing, or whatever!’ Hear more ways that you can be a part of supporting our work in their full conversation on KISU’s website!
