Kai* and Otis* each recently spent a day of one-on-one time with their Friend, Ramon, enjoying the natural beauty of Edson Fitcher pond while practicing their fishing skills.

The outings gave Ramon and the boys space to really get to know each other: what they're into, who their friends are, how school's going. These are the small, unhurried conversations that long-term mentorship relationships are built on.

The fishing itself didn't start well. The boys arrived buzzing with excitement for a new place to explore, but the fish weren't biting. They sat on the bank watching and waiting, poking at worms and bugs to pass the time. What could have been a letdown turned into something else entirely: a lesson in patience.

Ramon leaned into it, using the quiet stretches to talk with each boy about sticking with hard things, even when the payoff isn't immediate. Then, finally, they each caught a fish! The wait had been worth it.
