A Young Boy Finds His Strong Voice
Over the past year, professional mentor, or Friend, Eduardo has been working with a youth who entered our program later than most of his peers. When he did enroll at Friends of the Children - Eastern Idaho, this young boy struggled to express himself in healthy ways. He often became aggressive with other children and would frequently shut down at school, hiding under his desk or in corners any time he felt overwhelmed.
As Eduardo got to know him, he discovered a child who loves art and thrives during family events and STEM activities at the clubhouse. With Eduardo’s steady presence at school, the boy’s confidence has grown. He now plays with peers on the playground and shares his ideas clearly and assertively without resorting to physical behavior. In the classroom, he makes eye contact with his teacher and uses his “strong voice” to communicate what he is feeling or what help he needs, making conversation and collaboration possible.
This growth represents more than just an improved behavior. It reflects a child who is learning the critical skills of how to regulate his emotions, build relationships, and advocate for himself. These are skills that shape a child’s future, especially for children who have faced early instability. In moments that once led to conflict or withdrawal, he is now practicing confidence, communication, and connection, laying a foundation that will influence how he learns, relates to others, and navigates challenges for years to come.
This is the kind of growth that the support of a Friend, and the support of an entire community, makes possible. With your continued partnership, Eduardo and our Friends of the Children - Eastern Idaho team can sustain this work and extend our impact to more children and families in our community.
